A.I. is cool but what’s next?
After the Pandemic Metaverse Hype from 2022, and the A.I. frenzy that’s been going on in the past 2 years, many are seeing the Large Language Model as the future of technology. I believe that is only a small piece of the puzzle. The rest lies in a combination of motion based interaction, voice recognition, and deep neural net.
From the release of Apple Vision Pro, came spacial computing. But from my perspective, the most useful and impactful feature that came with it is the micro-motion tracking interactive system. Motion interaction is not new, gamers have been working on it as early as 1993. When Inventor Assaf Gurner announced the Light Harp at CES that yeat, which became part of the Sega Genisis accessory “The Activator” full body motion control input. The next console from the game industry that hit it big was the Nintendo Wii, which took the world by storm upon release in November 2006. Games on the PS3 and Xbox followed with games like Just Dance. And in 2012, Leap Motion released The Leap, a hand motion tracker for PC input. The input didn’t take off, but the technology continued developing with-in the film space for 3D motion tracking.
Fast forward to today, why do I think motion based interaction is back? With the micro motion tracking technology available on Apple Vision Pro, as well as the motion OS that is available on The Apple Watch, the company is training a new generation of user to adapt and understand a new UIUX language. Spacial computing is not impressive because of VR or AR, it is impressive because of the possibility to combine motion interaction and voice recognition into one cohesive system that can be assisted with Deep Neural Net and Large Language Model.
In the past, all feedback from motion based input happens on a screen, that is no longer the case, technological advancement does not have to happen on a screen. Combined with younger GenZ’s demand for offline mental health days, and school’s reaction to A.I. integration in education, the gradual reduction of screen usage and screen sizes will likely be a trend in 5-10 years.
Features like motion based password, Touch ASMR Therapy, possibility of motion input working in conjunction with biomechanics are feasures that might be interesting to explore in the coming future.
